From: The Organic Growers Alliance
DEFRA is selling off six more ADAS (highly regarded, providing expert and free advice service for growers) research sites, including the organic farms at High Mowthorpe and Terrington, to cash in on rising property values. An ADAS statement said the sales would also release the organisation from the burden of running the farms at a time of reduced research and development revenues and poor agricultural returns. An undisclosed number of jobs will be lost. ADAS ran an organic stockless arable rotation at ADAS Terrington in Norfolk from 1990 and a substantial mixed farming organic unit at ADAS High Mowthorpe. Together, these covered a range of arable crops, field vegetables and fertility-building legume crops.
