Love Food? Hate Waste!
We waste a THIRD of all the food we buy in the UK! And that's after all the food wasted by shops and suppliers before it even reaches us. Forgetting what we've got in the fridge and cooking too much mean we throw away tonnes and tonnes of perfectly edible food - enough whole apples to fill 12 double decker buses EVERY DAY!
Considering the amount of energy, water and packaging involved in food production, storage and transportation, it's sobering to hear those kinds of statistics. Avoiding this waste would have the same impact on carbon emissions as taking ONE in FIVE cars off the road in the UK! So there's an incentive for all of us. The fantastic website Love Food Hate Waste has loads of tips to help - how to cook the right amount, what to do with leftovers, and how to store food to keep it fresh as long as possible.
