The veg range is fit to burst with UK produce at the moment. Sweetcorn is still going strong and the UK apple and squash ranges are expanding daily – expect UK butternut squash soon too.
Kale offers good value and is available from lots of different farms in various forms – each distinctly different. Russian is a flatter, sweeter variety and the dark green/black cavolo nero has a more bitter taste…. If you want a colourful mix keep an eye out for Winter Wonderland from Lincolnshire.
The first delivery of sprouts has arrived from Duncan Gielty’s Ormskirk farm looking great and marking a seasonal change…. The colder nights however mean some summer lines are dwindling – expect to see a mix of UK and European aubergines and cucumbers, tipping more towards Europe in the forthcoming weeks.
Blackberries and some autumn fruiting raspberries from Whitethorn Farm in Herefordshire nicely fill the gap which blueberries leave ….there’s even a smattering of late season strawberries!
