This week welcomes the first arrival of pak choi from local grower Duncan Gielty. Two mini heads to a pack, they are making a great addition to lots of staff teas this week, just look how happy Craig and Seyedeh are at the prospect. Also starting from Lancashire are bunches of coriander and flat parsley, you can really tell the freshness of greens which have travelled such short distances to the plate.
As the hungry gap begins to draw closer however, lots of UK stored veg are coming to an end. Final days for beetroot, celeriac and red onions before we head to Europe to bridge the gap between seasons.
Dutch glasshouse aubergines are beginning to appear, a sure fire sign of spring on the approach and generally beautiful fruits. Celery is having a moment too – huge generous stalks, leaves full of flavour and loads of crunch and juice. Look out for the bunched carrots from French cooperative Agrobiodrom as well, they’re magnificent.
