Spanish avocados have been delicious the past few weeks. Lots of flavour and a creamy texture. We can expect them to continue until some time in May, when the Spanish crop will be done and we need to look towards South America. Dubious planting practices and the food miles on those make for a less appealing avo option, so please go ahead and enjoy these Spanish “Butter Pears” while they’re at their best.
Blueberries and raspberries are becoming more abundant and taste great, but strawberries are tricky in terms of quality and availability. The 1st UK product appearing on our fruit side this weekend is Rhubarb from Alan Hewitt in Dunham Massey. Very exciting! We’re planning crumbles on the deli already.
Duncan Gielty’s Lancashire pak choi is getting bigger and better each delivery and his spring greens are also a nice option alongside other UK brassicas like cauliflower and purple sprouting broccoli.
Abundant and good value: Spanish courgettes & celery and lemons from Agrico-op in Sicily.
Watch this space next week: Lots of UK produce will start to trickle through!
