If we were ever going start a band, it would have to be called ‘Unicorn and the Kalettes’ 🙂 We’re loving this kale and Brussels sprout cross so much, we have made it our ‘veg of the month’, which means you’ll find it in abundance in the veg area as well as in certain dishes on the deli. It’s sweet, versatile and quick to cook. Its peak season comes just at a time when other kale varieties are dwindling fast, with cavolo nero, red kale and Russian kale all seeing their last picks this week.
We’ve been getting a fair few questions about the Seville orange season. They are set to continue into March, so if you haven’t made your marmalade yet, there is still time. Bear in mind the quality is at its best right now though.
Coriander and French beans are really tricky at the minute, so expect gaps, but spring time in Spain spells the arrival of peas and spring onions!
Finally, squashes and pumpkins are also set to finish. After this week we expect to have butternuts and a trickle of muscade de provence squash. This is a classic French varietywith sweet, fine-flavoured flesh that is superb for roasting, soups and purées.
