It has certainly felt like Spring is in the air this week, with plenty of sunshine and lighter evenings for us to enjoy. Our UK growers are clearing tunnels of produce eager to get in new plantings and we’re lucky enough to be getting deliveries of Lancashire spinach, pak choi, and lettuce, whilst Glebelands’ regular deliveries of salad leaves continue to look equally inviting. Watercress from Libby Flintoff is also looking particularly fresh, for those looking to add some subtle bitter notes to their plates. That said, we are still heavily reliant upon produce from Spanish, Italian and French growers around this time of year, and we have some fantastic looking and tasting Spanish avocados and asparagus to add to your salads this week. The Spanish industry has had a tricky couple of weeks with lorry drivers striking due to fuel price increases, meaning journeys are running at a loss for many of them. This has left many growers unable to pick and transport their produce with lines of trucks forming roadblocks. Our wholesalers in Perpignan, France have been working extremely hard to negate the issues resulting from these strikes and we’re grateful to them for all the produce they are managing to send us in these difficult trading times.
