This week it’s all about chard!
As versatile as it is vibrant, we’ve an abundance of this leafy vegetable in at the moment: French rainbow chard is being sold loose, alongside some bagged from our friends at Glebelands just down the road in Sale.
Try sautéing with freshly sliced garlic in olive oil for a few minutes until suitably wilted and season for a quick and easy side dish. This also makes for a great pizza topping or folded into risotto.
We’ve also some baby ruby chard courtesy of Duncan Gielty (which is being sold in the new home compostable TIPA bags!). More delicate in flavour and texture this variety will work equally well raw in a salad for those looking to add a little colour, as well as bitterness to their plates.
On the horizon there’s plenty to look forward to, but in particular the first UK tomatoes from Wight’s are expected next week. But as the seasons change and we welcome in new UK lines it does inevitably mean that It’s time to say goodbye to others — namely purple and yellow carrots, celeriac, and leeks — so get these while you still can.
