It might not feel like it right now but summer is almost upon us, and with that comes the first smattering of Spanish stone fruits. We’ve already had our first deliveries of nectarines, peaches and chanterais melons, which means watermelons, apricots and galias won’t be far behind. Chanterais melons are a firm staff favourite here at Unicorn, with their irresistibly rich and creamy flesh, and distinctly floral aroma. And on this side of the channel we are delighted to see the return of UK asparagus from Bedlam farm in Lincolnshire, another welcome sign of the shift to warmer temps. Lettuces from Strawberry Fields in Lincolnshire continue to shine in both look and flavour, and we can expect the first mini cucumbers from Gielty in Ormskirk by the end of the week. We’ve also a fantastic supply of cauliflowers at the minute, including some absolute monsters (see previous post!) courtesy of Organic Pantry up in Tadcaster, Yorkshire, alongside some more sensibly sized specimens from our friends down in Penzance.
