Summer has undoubtedly arrived, and there’s just one thing on our minds in this uncommonly warm weather: salad!
Salad leaves from Glebelands are, as always, a real delight at this time of year, and topped with a smattering of edible flowers for a real pop of colour. Lettuce varieties are equally enticing, with regulars like little gems and batavia in and amongst some of the more niche varieties like red kamalia and green victorionous, courtesy of Glebelands.
UK ratatouille has really picked up in the last few weeks, and we’ve got plenty to go round. Courgettes are looking particularly vibrant and are coming in thick and fast from Libby Flintoff, Gielty, Glebelands and Ward & Thompson, as well as a limited supply of round and yellow varieties from Farmstart in Stockport. Slice into ribbons and coat in a lemon vinaigrette for a super simple and refreshing side salad.
Gielty’s washed carrots are finally here and are tasting fantastic, with an excellent bite. We can also expect yellow custard squash – the first UK squash of the season – from Strawberry Fields by the end of the week!
On the fruit side, melon season is drawing to a close, but what a season it’s been! We’ve still got a great supply of galia, watermelon, and charentais for the time being, and what better way to hydrate than with a generous slice of melon in the sunshine.
