Christmas is coming!
As we move into the final month of the year and begin our preparations for the Christmas season, our veg offer is already starting to look the part with new festive lines coming in thick and fast.
First off we’ve had our first deliveries of some truly majestic sprout stalks courtesy of New Fields. Not just a talking point, sprouts will keep better when still attached to the stalk, and the tops are totally edible too! Use like chard or spinach beet. We’ve got a great supply of loose sprouts from Lyncroft Farm and New Fields with some red sprout stalks courtesy of Royal Oak thrown into the mix as well this week, while our supply of white cauliflowers is looking equally healthy, currently coming in from Sampson down in Penzance, Cornwall.
It’s around now that we begin to plan with our growers just how much of those festive favourites we’ll be getting through in the shop. With UK produce slowing down in the much cooler weather, it feels like a brief moment of calm before the storm begins.
Whilst we’re busy sampling every carrot and spud we can (it’s a tough job), our growers are working hard to deliver on the fantastic produce you see on the shelves, as well as planning deliveries for a busy period. Out there working in dropping temperatures and diminishing daylight, we salute the unsung heroes of the humble Christmas dinner!
