Temperatures are set to drop dramatically in the next few days, so what better time to cook up a warming winter feast in the kitchen this week.
We’ve an abundance of seasonal leafy greens at the minute, with some very pretty red sprout tops courtesy of Royal Oak, joining New Fields’ enormous sprout stalks and Lyncroft Farm’s loose sprouts. Spring greens are a highlight this week too, with a great supply coming in from both Strawberry Fields in Lincolnshire and Francis Sampson down in Cornwall. Spring greens are technically a type of cabbage, but with a particularly sweet flavour. As with all cabbage they’re super versatile, working equally well simply sautéed with lemon as a rustic side dish, or incorporated into an asian stir fry or creamy pasta dish.
On the Euro side and if you’ve been in recently you’ll have already noticed that citrus season is in full swing, with an enviable selection of varieties to choose from. Clementines, bergamot lemons, seville oranges, as well as shop regulars navel oranges and grapefruit are all smelling, looking, and tasting fantastic. Homemade jam makes a great christmas present, so what are you waiting for!?
