Purple sprouting broccoli is our standout this week, its violet florets having finally emerged from underneath the (still very delicious) canopies of leaves. Currently stocked with Francis Sampson’s of Penzance, with Organic Pantry’s offering expected in time for the weekend.
New to the display this weekend is true baby leaf spinach courtesy of Duncan Gielty up in Ormskirk, while our first taste of broad beans is expected tomorrow! Avocados are another highlight now the Spanish season is in full swing, tasting super creamy and a great size too.
On the fruit side, kiwis are an excellent option: good value and very juicy. Strawberries and raspberries will be making their return tomorrow, alongside our continued, excellent supply of blueberries, to give us a full and fabulous range of berry goodness.
Finally, a quick word on what you may have heard or read in the news over the last couple of days. As was mentioned last week, our reliance on southern European produce during the winter months has been pulled into sharp focus this year, with unusually cold weather in France and Spain disrupting supply chains and driving up prices across the board. Now the disruption has reached national news outlets, we just want to reiterate that we will likely continue to see gaps here and there, but we will not be placing any restrictions on our produce. We currently have a limited supply on a full range of varieties of tomatoes, as well as peppers, aubergines, and cucumbers. We expect to see a return to some semblance of normality in a few weeks, so hold tight!
