As the UK season gains momentum, we can expect to see lots of exciting new stuff on the shelves in the coming weeks!
FIrst off we’ve some gorgeous looking radish bunches courtesy of Organic Pantry, as well as the first UK season asparagus from Lincolnshire. UK lettuce is also back: we have some generously sized gems from Duncan Gielty in Ormskirk to start the week then Libby Flintoff in Preston will be delivering her first cuts this Thursday. Pam from Strawberry Fields will also be adding red oakleaf to join her green batavia and oakleaf which have been going down a treat.
On the European side we’ve had our first smatterings of melons: currently charentais and watermelon varieties, via Le Gros (showcased wonderfully here by Lee and Gio). They’re already tasting super juicy and sweet, indicating an excellent season ahead. Nectarines are also here, with apricots and peaches expected in time for the weekend.
Finally, fresh garlic has made its return to our shelves. Typically more subtle in flavour than its dried counterpart, fresh garlic pairs beautifully with the delicate flavours of other springtime veggies: think asparagus and broad beans.
See you soon!
