With days lengthening our UK growers are starting to see some bits and bobs being ready for picking.
Purple Sprouting Broccoli has made a welcome return for us. This tender stemmed brassica has a long growing period and is overwintered for an early crop. It’s appearance always lets us know that Spring is not too far around the corner. The first cuts are always of slightly larger heads as the crown of the plant is taken first to encourage the side shoots to flourish.
This week we’ve got it on shelf from Organic Pantry in Tadcaster and Francis Sampson in Cornwall.
We’ve a first flush of Coriander from Duncan Gielty at Lyncroft Farm in Ormskirk. a crop he brings on early for us in his polytunnels.
Kindling Market Garden up at Woodbank have delivered us some incredibly tender rainbow chard. You could eat this raw in a salad or gently wilt it with some garlic and olive oil, either way, it really is perfect…..
