As the temperatures are starting to warm, we’re beginning to see a few more veg lines coming through from the tunnels and fields of our growers. We’re firmly on UK lettuces now and are impressed by the leafy green and red lettuces from down the road in Stockport this week. Kindling Market Garden have grown Oakleaf, Batavia and Butterhead varieties and their freshness shines through. They are sitting nicely alongside our green lettuces grown by Strawberry Fields on the Lincolnshire Fens. Along with our little gem lettuce packs from Libby Flintoff, Lyncroft Farm and Strawberry Fields, we should have plenty of salad and sandwich filler!
Our range of UK brassicas are not in full swing yet but we have a nice supply of spring greens to satisfy your needs. This leafy field cabbage is coming from Lyncroft Farm and Strawberry Fields. We’ll be seeing a small amount of cavolo nero from Libby Flinoff’s polytunnel this week and more next week. we’re thinking this will be snapped up quickly!
As a result of the extremely wet weather this spring, Strawberry Fields have planted kohl rabi under cover. It’s ready now and when it arrived this week, we were all hugely impressed. Hope you agree, thay are absolute showstoppers! Their tender leaves can be cooked like cabbage while their bulbs, once peeled, can be roasted, steamed, stir fried or eaten raw. Try adding it to homemade coleslaw.
