This week we welcome the return to the shelves of some fabulous produce from Newfields Organics based up in Fadmoor, North Yorkshire. Regular customers will be familiar with the quality of the range of veg they grow, and as ever they have not disappointed. We’ll have a bit more on their potato crop next week, but so far their manitou and sunita varieties are the standouts alongside Lyncroft Farm’s acoustic spuds. Also keep an eye out for their wonderfully crisp and pristine spring onion bunches on the display.
Also making its way from Fadmoor and Ormskirk is a fine looking supply of rainbow chard. Sometimes overlooked, it is an excellent substitute for spinach especially when cooked which gives it a milder flavour with less of the bitterness of the raw leaf and stem. Wonderfully versatile, use it anyway you would spinach.
This week from the south west coast of Spain we are receiving passion fruits. For those who may be unfamiliar, in the case of passion fruit a wrinkled skin is a good sign the fruit is ready to eat. Their uncommon flavour balances sharpness and sweetness in taste. A great addition to a berry smoothie or if you want to get creative in cocktail making, they’re also just delicious on their own.
