These late summer weeks are a particular favourite amongst staff! Our shelves are brimming with a wide range of UK produce, and our fridges remain fully stocked with fresh, UK leafy salad items. Locally grown rocket, lettuce heads, and loose salad leaves are thriving, perfect for back-to-work or school lunchboxes next week.
Sweetcorn season is here! We’re receiving hundreds of cobs from Strawberry Fields and Vine house Farms in Lincolnshire with our first Lancashire delivery of the season imminent. New season bunched beetroot is also proving popular, with red varieties from Lyncroft and Strawberry Fields, and a golden, earthy option from Strawberry Fields. Don’t forget to use the tops!
Spring onions are still looking and tasting great. We have red varieties from Lancashire and white bunches coming from over the Pennines from Newfields in Yorkshire. The white ones have slightly larger bulbs, perfect for salads or stir-fries.
The UK apple season has kicked off with Discovery apples from Carey’s orchards in Herefordshire, alongside his James Grieve and Rosette varieties. We are particularly enjoying the Rosette variety with their vibrant, colourful red flesh, good for those who enjoy their apples on the sweeter side of the scale.
Also, sweetening up our fruit shelves are French figs, which are just starting to plump up nicely, and delicious French Muscat de Hambourg black grapes, with their aromatic, sweet and floral flavour.
