Last weekend was a challenging one, to say the least, for those working out in the fields. Fortunately, the plummeting temperatures were well forecast. Consequently many growers worked around the clock last Thursday to build up a stock of crops like carrots and leeks before the ground froze making lifting roots nigh on impossible! All of the hard work and forethought on their part means we still have a terrific range of UK winter veg to offer. A stark reminder of the realities of harvesting sprouts for Christmas dinner…
With this likely to be the final pre-Christmas veg update, we’ll take the opportunity to give you the lowdown on the festive run up. The good news is that, weather notwithstanding, logistics should be relatively unaffected up until Christmas. Assuming the anticipated thaw materialises, this will mean daily deliveries from both the UK and continental Europe. At the risk of tempting fate, and with the exception of chestnuts (see in-store notes), we’ve secured a good supply of Christmas staples and don’t anticipate any major gaps.
Lots of questions about blood oranges of late, always touch and go as to whether the season commences before Christmas arrives… we’re delighted to say they should be on our shelves this weekend!
