More sublime UK produce arriving in store this week from a host of our favourite growers across the country. Celery bunches from Strawberry Fields in Lincolnshire are nothing short of fantastic – we always encourage the use of celery leaves in the kitchen and these really showcase why; try using as a flat parsley substitute in salads or add to stews and soups. Fresh dill, kohl rabi and lettuces all singing of the Boston season too.
Local heroes Glebelands City Growers expand their range this week as well; the first arrival of fresh garlic has blown us away – large, clean heads with an amazing punchy flavour, no apologies for garlic breath when it tastes as fine as this. Try alongside their colourful rainbow chard for a true taste of late springtime Manchester.
Traditionally the last pick of asparagus occurs on midsummer’s day; although we expect the supply to last longer this year after the delayed start to the season, picks are beginning to dwindle so fill up while you can.
European early-season pumpkins from Sicily are tasting really good. Immature enough to roast with the skins on, they require little preparation too. Stone fruits continue to abound from the continent – in particular, we’ve loads of different varieties of apricots coming in this week, each with their own particular blush and flavour profile – try a few of each if you get the chance.
