It’s all about courgettes – they are our veg of the month. The sunshine has pumped up the volume of production. Our offer comprises mainly Northwest growers: Glebelands (Sale), Ward & Thompson and Libby Flintoff (both Lancashire). So whatever your method: griddle, BBQ, spiralising, ribbons, stuffed, stir-fry or salad – do it with courgettes!
The Wasses, long-standing suppliers of ours who farm on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors, have been absent from our range recently due to the late start of the season on lots of UK lines. They’re now back in the mix with hard-to-find crops such as broccoli and cauliflowers – only a sprinkling this week, but it’s a good sign!
On Friday we’re due our first summer delivery from Agrobiodrome near Provence. This co-operative of French growers specialises in locally grown produce with a strong focus on stone fruits at the moment. We are expecting their apricots and peaches to be proper treat, no match for mainstream Spanish fruits.
Joe Pardoe currently supplies us with cherries from his orchard in Herefordshire. They are on the small side this year because of the lack of rainfall, but flavour wise they’re a joy.
As a final mention, we though you might like to know that there are murmurings of a slightly early UK apple season – mid August for the 1st pick!
