So much of our UK produce is looking especially fabulous at the minute; this week’s photos really speak for themselves! Brassicas are a real highlight this week and there’s lots to go round. Some stunning white cauliflowers from New Fields (as well as Sampson and Gielty later this week) have made their return after a short gap and join our selection of coloured varieties.
Gielty’s purple sprouting broccoli is also looking fantastic in its magnificent leafy bunches, while Strawberry Field’s monster-sized spring greens represent an excellent value leafy option alongside New Field’s equally stunning savoy and january king cabbages. Whole heads of cavolo nero courtesy of New Fields and Strawberry Fields are similarly good value, and keep better than loose.
Elsewhere and due to the heavy rainfall sweetcorn has experienced an uncommonly late season, and is currently looking very robust and of fabulous quality from Duncan Gielty up in Ormskirk. UK fennel season is coming to a close, but for the minute we’ve plenty from Pam at Strawberry Fields. We’re still a little limited on Spinach but we’ll have UK spinach beet later this week with French true spinach by the weekend.
On the fruit side clementines are already super juicy and flavoursome, and we’ve just received our very first Bergamot lemons of the season. Chrimoya custard apples are also here and perfect if you’re looking for something a little different; a decadently sweet and creamy flesh that works excellently in a dessert.
