We’ve got a whole host of beautiful produce lined up for you this week, starting with our very first UK lettuces of the year courtesy of Duncan Gielty! For now it’s just these (very picturesque) green butterheads, with little gems possibly on the horizon in the coming weeks if the mild weather continues. These will of course be alongside our continued supply of wonderful French lettuces from Univert, Provence.
Also in the fridge this week is lamb’s lettuce and baby leaf spinach, to supplement our reduced supply of local salad leaves. Lamb’s lettuce is always a great choice this time of year as one that actually thrives in subzero temperatures! Growing in rosettes of rich, glossy, rounded leaves, it’s chiefly enjoyed raw in a salad setting. For a twist, why not capitalise on its unique nutty, tangy flavour and use it in place of basil in a seasonal pesto?
On the fruit side, Spanish passion fruits continue to steal the show with their sumptuously sweet-tart interiors. We had another sensational Agricoop pallet over the weekend and it did not disappoint: special mention to the Tarocco blood oranges. They’re getting especially rouged as we enter the later stages of the season and are a total knockout in flavour, so don’t miss out! Elsewhere on citrus and we’re expecting Corsican grapefruits later this week, alongside cara cara navel oranges: perfectly sweet with a beautiful peach-pink interior. Watch this space!
