Is it just us, or did Christmas kind of creep up on us there?!
We will be having fresh fruit and vegetable deliveries daily of all your festive favourites right up until Christmas Eve. Starting tomorrow, we’ll have some delicious Sicilian oranges – juicy, vibrant, and definitely not to be missed. There will also be two deliveries of beautiful French lettuces and fresh herbs to refresh your palate, as well as plenty of locally grown salad leaf mix from @kindlingtrust
We thought it would be a good time to remind everyone of our top roasters for the big day (and we will have plenty of all of these varieties), which are largely coming from local Lancashire grower Duncan and John from Newfields up in North Yorkshire.
Carolus: Floury and crisp on the outside with lovely, light, fluffy centres – staff favourite for good reason!
Maris Piper: The quintessential roastie, balancing moist and fluffy insides with a classic earthy flavour and a satisfying crunch.
Picasso: Creamy and smooth with melt-in-the-mouth moistness for a deeply satisfying roast.
Alouette: Fluffy, soft interiors with a mildly nutty flavour that crisps up beautifully.
Another honourable mention to sprout stalks – these offer great value due to the generous amount of sprouts each stalk holds as well as the tender leafy top, which are delicious and can be used like any leafy cabbage. They are also a great way to keep your sprouts really fresh until you actually need to cook them – sources say up to two weeks, but we recommend between 7 and 10 days for the best flavour (use the tops before then!).
Ceci n’est pas une pipe – it is delicious, fresh horseradish from Austria which we have in special for Christmas – if you know, you know! Not to be missed for those who love making horseradish sauce from scratch.
We are expecting Saturday 21st and Monday 23rd Dec (yes, we are open!) to be the busiest days overall. However, it is worth noting that the shop gets significantly quieter on all days from late afternoon to early evening.
